Re: 5" gauge scale BR pin stripe dimensions.
From what I can gather they had the standard lining of black, cream and grey on tanks and cabsides. According to Haresnape, 1/4" red, 1" black, 1/8" cream, 5/8" grey, the latter to the outside, and 4ins radius to it's outside. Boiler bands and cylinders, two red lines, but I don't know the separatio...

Re: Mica B
John Catt says he remembers these, not as a fitted head, but as complete trains from the docks to Smithfield. At the tail was a small brake van, which he has modelled, photo in the latest Turnout, page 34

Re: Mica B
Ben would have a better idea than me of how many are finished, but we made a dozen kits and only have one left. Mine is nowhere near finished, and one has gone to Australia, so potentially 9 running here now.

Re: Brake pin rack
Martin, I don't supply ratchet style brake lever guards, however I should have some laser cut bits for the pin style. You'd need to bend and solder them together, not a difficult job.

Strength of couplings
Does anyone know how strong our couplings are, or how strong they should be? I've just been testing some shackles which started to distort at about 380lbs. They distorted more with greater load, but held 540lbs which is when I ran out of bags of cement. The eyes showed no damage or distortion. Any t...

There are drawings on the internet illustrating the principle of operation, or, why not contact Doug himself, his address is on the internet, look for 'the-hewsons'

Re: Points radius
It would be difficult to give a sensible answer without knowing how much sideplay there is on all the axles.
The GL5 portable track is 35' radius, and so far everything which has turned up has run on it without problem, so far as I know.
It would be interesting to know why you need to know the radius.

Re: HELP with point construction
Dave, In reverse order, there is nothing wrong with overwide wheels except that, apart from looking wrong, I doubt they would help much. To carry the load more effectively onto the wing rail, wouldn't they need to be cylindrical, and we don't want that. Although noses do eventually wear, I doubt you...

Re: HELP
David, I strongly suggest not butting the rails up tightly to each other. It will depend to some extent on how you lay the track, whether there is any give in it. The track at Gilling is screwed to a concrete base, and even though they were very careful building it, it still buckled a few years ago ...

Re: HELP
Hi David, and welcome. Hopefully someone else will answer the rail question, but regarding the back to back, the figure quoted in our standards (4 11/16) is the required dimension for new construction, but our track will accept wheelsets with a back to back of 4 5/8, though this is an absolute minim...

Re: IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL INFORMATION
The bank has now changed it's mind, they have decided that they will not allow the use of symbols, so for bank transfers you must now use the title Ground Level 5 Gauge Main Line Association I know, it's not our name, but that is all they'll accept. Oddly, they will accept cheques made out to GL5MLA...

How many carriages behind the guard's compartment
In Haresnape's Railway Liveries BR Steam, on page 36, is a picture of V3 67620 about to leave Darlington with a train for Richmond. It is Colour Rail photo BRE445 which can be viewed on the internet (use the loco number in their search). The train consists of two Gresley steel twins, ie 4 bodies, an...

If you want to know what is included you should ask Maxitrack, as such things may change over time.
However, as they were not, as far as I know, used by BR or a constituent company, you wouldn't be allowed to run one at a GL5 event.
Dave.

Isn't this a more appropriate use of 3D printing in our scale than doing whole wagons?
Rather than Buttercup, perhaps we should call her Rhododendron.

Re: 3D Printed Wagons.
How can I put this politely, you get what you pay for, and you wouldn't be paying much. If you check our web site under the menu 'About', it says of locos "providing they are an accurate representation of a prototype, and conform to all GL5 standards". I suggest that the same applies to rolling stoc...

Liz had a message from Down Under this morning. Our mate, Barry Glover, died peacefully last Tuesday with his family beside him. His son is going to send me nos for a video link, of his funeral, which lasts 90 days. Barry was a leading light in the model engineering fraternity in Australia, and trav...

Re: Maxitrak Locos.
Hi David, I agree with Matt. The Class 25 is a very useful and quite realistic loco. Being a Jack of all trades you can use it for anything, especially useful at GL5 events. You may well find the Brush a disappointment, it's a nice idea, but poorly executed. Speed is far too high, and it's a poor re...
