GL5 Committee Changes
Hi all, Since the new Chairman and Secretary have both been introduced on Facebook, I thought I'd better copy the info across onto here too for those who are online but don't do Facebook; obviously the full details will be in Turnout. Following a very civilised AGM in which Ben Lyons (outgoing Chair...

Re: Mica B
John Catt says he remembers these, not as a fitted head, but as complete trains from the docks to Smithfield. At the tail was a small brake van, which he has modelled, photo in the latest Turnout, page 34 I did a bit of digging and found a couple of threads on RMWeb discussing Smithfield and the me...

Re: Mica B
Cheers Dave. 8 or 9 together as a fitted head would look pretty impressive, especially behind something suitable like Vince's 4700. Good that they've nearly all sold.

Re: Mica B
Enjoyed Hugh's articles on putting his one together. How many are out there now? Was watching some videos on and it looks like there were quite a few a Gilling in August.

Re: Brake pin rack
Chris at the Yorkshire Wagon Company might do them although they're not listed on the website- worth dropping him a line though.
AP Model Engineering have lots of bits like that as well- the website isn't the best but there's a downloadable price list.

Hi David, seems to work fine here on both my Windows PC and my Android 'phone (both running Google Chrome browsers).

Re: Maxitrack loco
Understood Alan- I was just giving an answer to your question " if anyone can point out any in BR that would be great", and confirming the GL5 stance on them as this is after all the GL5 forum! There were loads in industrial use (some of which did work over BR lines or exchange sidings with permissi...

Re: Maxitrack loco
There was one trialled on BR, in Gloucester Docks- I put a link to a photo in reply to David's post in this section- but it clearly wasn't successful enough to warrant a purchase as none were actually owned by BR and as such as Dave has said they don't fit the GL5 requirements. I looked into them a ...

Re: 3D Printed Wagons.
I bought one of the shunter's truck kits, mostly out of curiosity if I'm honest. They're actually rather nicely thought out as kits and well finished, and ideal for those looking for a couple of things that look like wagons to trundle around their garden railway, and the chap making them is very app...

Re: speedy
Holger, it is here , on the general chat page. It is a very impressive bit of modelling and engineering. I must go through the drawings for my "Speedy" and see what valve gear variants are in there, I assume it was built to the Don Young modifications- I know it's not pure LBSC. I remember helping t...

Re: Maxitrak Locos.
A last thought, as there is already a scale and a Maxitrak Brush regularly attending GL5 rallies, another one would be a bit of overkill for a "one off". A bit like 3 "Evening Stars" at one event. I didn't want to say that but I did think it! Another option is the class 08- there are lots in GL5 bu...

Re: Maxitrak Locos.
Hi David, I don't have any real experience with either but there's an article on the Class 25 in Turnout 71. Only gripes mentioned are a lack of cab detail "out of the box" and the lamp irons being rather fragile- neither a deal breaker I would suggest. A number of the commercially available 5" dies...

Re: Mica B
There was something that I couldn't quite put my finger on and the tie rods were it. Thanks Dave.
I rather like the idea of a making the MICA derived Tevan- given the amount of tea drunk at the events I've attended it would seem quite appropriate...

Re: Mica B
Looks very smart gents.
Were they built on effectively a standard GWR van underframe (as much as there was such a thing- obviously a later diagram being vac braked Morton as opposed to DC)?
Can't stretch to one at the moment sadly but will be keeping an eye on progress.

Re: Rivet tool
I will be needing one then as Dave and I are working on a new van kit . Hi Ben, Stumbled over this as I'm looking at rivet tools for putting a couple of the Modelworks 16t minerals together, hopefully with some improvements to the running gear. Did anything come of the van project/ is it still in t...

New (ish) member from Gloucestershire.
Hi all, I've met quite a few of you already, but have finally got around to logging in to here so I thought I'd better say hello. Hello! Matt here, no railway, a couple of wagons in component form (that just requires time) and a loco I don't know how to run (that bit will require practice). Looking ...
