Back Issues of Turnout

Due to illness I am having to give up 5'' modelling and have a complete set of issues of 'Turnout' 1 - 57 contained in the 'official' Turnout binders which I would like to dipose of. I am open to offers.

Re: The Future

I would agree with Eddy's comments above. However the point about area meetings is a difficult one. As a former area coordinator I was suprised when this activity was added to a coordinators 'cv' without asking first. The reality was that for the area i volunteered for it was the best part of 200 mi...

Re: The Future

I have just read the previous comments on the future direction of GL5. I would say that to allow anyone to post comments on this site would be a backward step, it was instigated for members only and should remain that way, if for no other reason than to stop it being 'hijacked' by hackers etc. Balle...

Mk1 Resteraunt/Buffet Car

Just a short note to advise any coach builders to take a look at the 'Model Engineering Website' (MEWS). There are some nice pictures of a MK1 Resteraunt Car - large kitchen version, being scratch built by

Re: LMS Milk Tank

Further to the previous correspondence regarding the livery of the milk tank wagons, there has just been a question regarding livery raised on the Yahoo wagon research group. A reply came from Paul Bartlett (one of ,if not the expert on wagons in the uk) that the underframes and staying for the barr...

Re: Rivets - Large and Small

Keith, Many thanks for puttting up the photo of the Toad. Excellent picture and I can now see the differences in the rivets. It certainly gives encouragement! I have a collection of pics of some 'Toads' at Cranmore, Forest of Dean and Didcot and your earlier pics in 'Turnout' to work from. Many than...

Re: LMS Milk Tank - 2

Keith, Thanks for the rivet details, and yes...how else does one describe a rivet. It was the larger diameter head that foxed me, having seen similar on a couple of chassis at exhibitions last year. I have a 'Toad' brakevan chassis kit which im trying to sort out, its going very slowly as I suffered...

Re: LMS Milk Tank - 2

Keith, Many thanks for putting up pictures of your work on the milk tank for all of us to see and enthuse over, it cetainly looks very nice. One question:....What size rivets are you using on the chassis? I ask because I was told that maximum size rivets we should be using on steel wagon chassis sho...

Re: Loco and Brake Van Lamps

Further to Brent's note above regarding the use of lights, i quote from the BR Rule Book, 1950 edition: each train when on any running line must always have a tail lamp, properly cleaned and trimmed and attatched to the rear of the last vehicle, and this lamp will furnish evidence to the signalman a...

Re: Mobile Cranes

Re your question about sources of information on mobile cranes. You could try the Great Western Society to see if they have any information on the crane they own. I believe i am correct in saying that the Swindon record Office have the drawings for this crane and the last quote i saw for a copy of t...
