Re: new arrival

Well done you two - especially Mum ! - That should keep you out of the workshop for a while Alan ! Hope to see you this year some time - lots of changes (Improvements?) going on at the Colchester ground level track so hopefully we can arrange a GL5 event sometime (We don't seem to be on this years l...

Re: Image Test Post

GL5 AGM 2013 009 (Small).jpg Looks better in preview so will use this if it all works out - thanks guys (PS: I should have read the Admin note from 2009 before...

Re: Image Test Post

Looks rubbish really (You cannot see it in preview) - I have asked the admin to tell us how it should be done. Mike/Guy - did you use the 'img' box to add the picture - it does nothing when you click on it?. I had to use the 'upload attachement' bit at the bottom. You both seem to be using a much be...

Re: Headlamp code

Before you commit to hard wiring the Tipton lamps you have bought be aware that it is possible to make them battery driven by fitting two hearing aid type batteries. I have done it to one of Tiptons GW lamps so assuming we are talking the same lamps you can have them both capable of illumination and...

Re: Wagon plate info

I used to get my label clips from Bill Hall but as far as I am aware that source has dried up. If you get some etched I would certainly be in the market (As I suspect a lot of other folk will be)

Re: P.O. Wagons

I have heard from Alan Wood who cannot make Gilling this time and who also is having trouble finding the books/references I was after.

If anyone going to Gilling , who has the relevant books, and who can copy and bring the info on the two wagons in question I would be very gratefull

Re: New member!

Ryan - the next GL5 event at Colchester is the GL5 AGM which is 13/14th July (See events on the website). This is a two day event on an informal basis - some timetable running but not so intense as a Main Line rally. The AGM actually takes place during the event when we all stop for an hour or so. T...

Re: New member!

Hi Ryan - good to hear that Fred's stock is still turning wheels. It certainly did under his ownership! Fred lived in the place where I was born and bred (72B) so we had a good raport and he is sorely missed. Not sure if you intend to go to Gilling (May be a bit far) but if you want to run closer to...

Re: P.O. Wagons

Well having sorted out the computer gremlins I have another problem which hopefully someone out there can help with. I was hoping to get a couple of Keith Turton's books on wagons from the local library but they have given up so has anybody got a copy of his second and eighth collection of wagon boo...

P.O. Wagons

Whilst looking for an obscure P.O.Coal wagon description I came across a wonderful index from Joe Greaves who has collated known details of coal wagons and tanks from the many various books available on the subject. The index can be downloaded from http://www.lightmoor.co.uk" onclick="window.open(th...

Scrat - Suggest in the case of the Super Claud you look either at the series of articles in Model Engineer 1942 or contact the GE Society The Minx being Southern should have discs by day and lamps at night however this was to the Southern (and BR(S) system of Route identification NOT what type of tr...

Re: gl5 attending sandownpark

There's been occasional chat about the GL5 keeping sidings to allow us to visit clubs and carry out this kind of activity if a point spur was provided. Where did the track come from? Was it provided by the exhibition? Richard The track was a combination of the Lindsay society, Guildford society and...

Eddy ( and all those who have been following this saga) I have completed the project and have a full set of working lamps - will bring to Gilling in May for inspection. This also includes making a'Tipton' GWR work. Article on head codes and lamps (S.R. orientated) is with Dave Noble for his consider...

Re: LMS Milk Tank

Hi Guys - this is a question to ask the administrators - I see no reason why there should not be a special section for members pictures on the GL5 website - a gallery type of heading. Anybody logged in can view sort of thing. We have a similar arrangement on the Bulleid builders website - once logge...

Re: Loco and Brake Van Lamps

Eddy - just to further complicate the issue those of us using SR brake vans should really only use the two top tail lamps on them. They only placed lamps on the central one when they strayed onto 'other' railways. The Isle of Wight vans for instance did not have a central bracket fitted - not much p...
