Re: Interested in a signal building group?

That's a lot of travel without some sort of assistance. If using the same driver, all servos of the same type should have the same movement. Perhaps it's a dud. I'll have spares with me at Shildon.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddie,

Different servo travel? That shouldn't be. Please check that I've sent you an HS-55. You can't alter the gearing, and I don't know what Richard's electronics are capable of. Hopefully we can come up with a solution on Thursday.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddie, "I'm surprised at just how bright the lamps are when viewed through the lens." To try and get the best effect, Rob one of my sons, and I, did a little experimenting to measure the focal length of the lens. So, I have placed the bulb at the focal point, and by sheer coincidence, this happens t...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

The pull wires are difficult. I don't think turnbuckles were normally incorporated, so I made my wires best I could, then adjusted the fit by moving the balance bracket to the best height. Same for the crank base. Tiny turnbuckles are available, if anyone wants them they can be bought from Prime Min...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Hi all, And the bad news is.... I received the laser cut parts for the point motors, or point machines to give them their real name, today. I've used this company for quite a while, but today they made their first mistake. The main part of the frame, or at least 3 of the 4, has a kink in it making i...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

The lamps are in the post, along with their missing fittings. Details of what to do with them are now on THE LIST. I hope to get more photos up tomorrow, photographing small things under tungsten light is beyond me.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Some news, not good, but not necessarily terminal. I am just adding extensions to my turnout bases to fit point machines into, so that we have powered points at Middleton, and the crossover in Noble Sidings. What I have only just twigged is that I don't have enough of the correct hand. We need three...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddie, Might it be possible to straighten the copper wire by pulling it tight before forming the eyes? But, I'll send you some stainless wire anyway. Yes, piano wire from servo to crank. You can see the arrangement of the shackles in the photos Ben posted on the previous page. I don't understand the...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddy, Base. Richard is doing these, they should come complete with all wiring and sockets etc. No one has volunteered to do the weights, and I haven't got time, may be after Shildon. Cables. I'm making them for Noble sidings, Jonny and/or Richard is/are hopefully dong the rest, when they decide what...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddie Glad you got the parts, posted Wednesday, so delivery is as I would have expected. Seems you've been unlucky. Can't understand your problems with the painting though, I must have sold hundreds of whitemetal castings (axleboxes, buffer stocks etc), and don't recollect this problem. I'll see if ...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

As mentioned above, home arms were painted with No 537 BSS381c, and distants with No 356. The colours happen to be called signal red and golden yellow, but that may or may not be coincidence, and is irrelevant really. I don't see the point in looking for colours which look like the ones we want, whe...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Richard, 1. Yes, you'll need to shorten your post to make the ladder fit. 2. See THE LIST. 3, 4. See THE LIST part 2. This is the fourth post on this thread. I'll update it tonight. 5. Under discussion, but my preference is to have some of the right colours mixed, as mentioned. 6. I can send you som...

I have just posted balance lever and crank pins (thanks to Keith) and some U bolts (thanks to Steve) to you all. More U bolts to follow when I receive them.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddy, I'm rubbish at painting, and prefer to use spray cans. What do you think about this http://www.riolettcustomaerosols.co.uk/cheap-british-standard-bs381c-paint/british-standard-colour-golden-yellow-356-aerosol-spray-paint/ for instance. The home arms were painted with number 537. Not very cheap...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Some posts and fittings were galvanised, but for painted ones the actual scheme varied somewhat. I suspect there was little control over it, and that older schemes were continued after nationalisation, as you will have noticed. According to the drawings, the posts were black up to 3ft above rail lev...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Good effort Keith. I knew they would be fiddly, that's why I asked for volunteers! Quick update on things mechanical. I've turned all the caps for the posts. The etchers have just e-mailed to say the remaining arms are in the post. The lost wax casters have let me know that they hope cast the saddle...
