I have found that a coating of acrylic lacour or varnish seems to protect the paintwork and even more the transfers as they are easily damedged.

On the odd ocation that a de scale has been needed on my copper boilers a product by the name of OUST has been used it is a household kettle discalent . And to my knollage has not produced any problems.

Dave With reference to your question the scale we use for our models is 1 1/16 inches to the foot or 27 mm to the foot. I get my dimentions by dividing the overall size in inches by 11.3 . I hope this might help you .
