Re: LNER Group Standard Tenders
Hi Doug, The green bible does confirm that the B1s were all steam braked. Although Yeadon claims the original engines were fitted with K3 type tenders they were different in that they had the high fronts which I think first appeared on J39s. Only two K3s ever had high front tenders. There were a num...

Hi Dave,
Presumably you know how to enter your loco. The rally is really about rolling stock, so you just turn up with them, the more the merrier.
See you there

Re: Buckeye fitted BR CCT?
Dave, Here's something interesting. As you noted above the USA runs all vehicles with buckeye couplers, both passenger and freight, and I think I'm right in saying that they don't run two axle vehicles. I was looking for the dimensions of a modern UK bulk haulage wagon at work today as we are lookin...

Re: Buckeye fitted BR CCT?
Dave, I stand corrected on the side control, your evidence is overwhelming! I agree with you that Ben might have a problem if his bogies have no transverse movement. The buckeyes have little scope to deal with relative movement between vehicles, being designed to prevent this in the extreme event. B...

Re: Buckeye fitted BR CCT?
I don't think the buckeyes are intended to self centre. I've had a look at a photo of a Mark 1 underframe and can see nothing that would suggest a mechanism to centre the coupling and my experience with them in 12" to the foot is that they can be moved off centre manually to aid coupling on curved t...

Re: Twin Clack valve?
Holger, I guess both your hand pump and steam pump have their own non return valves. I would fit a normal check valve at the boiler and run the steam pump delivery to it. If you must have the hand pump, then T into the steam pump delivery pipe, but be aware that as long as the steam pump is working ...

Re: smoke box seal
Andy, Silicone sealants are fine. I've just lifted a boiler that has been in service for eleven years. The ordinary silicone sealant I used for the smokebox around the main steam pipework and the exhaust was still flexible and was easily removed. Also where the ashpan was fitted to the firebox there...

Re: Transfers: Which supplier?
Hello Holger,
Just to keep things equitable you might also take a look at http://www.fox-transfers.co.uk. They have an extensive range in all scales up to and including full size.
Most of the model engineering suppliers will do transfers as well, e.g. Reeves, Blackgates etc..

Holgar,
Yellow LEDs look awful, tried that. Try to get some 3mm warm white, they look much more realistic.
Follow this link to see my lamps. The batteries are AG1 and last for hours.

Re: Headlamp code
Hi Holger, The Royal train was a very special working and yes it carried four headlamps and two tail lamps(it wouldn't do for the King or Queen to be delayed if the tail lamp were to go out!). Traditionally the locomotive would be turned out in immaculate condition (perhaps completely repainted) and...

Mike,The index can be downloaded from http://www.lightmoor.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - look under private owner wagons - and runs to 30 pages.
Do you want to give us that in something other than computer speak. Means absolutely nothing to me!

Ballan,
Thanks for the thought and my Seasonal Complements to everyone.
And my contribution for what it's worth. The biggest problem with injectors is feed pumps. As long as you have one you'll never bother to sort the injectors out.

Re: Wheel back to back dimensions
Wheel sets have to be a long way out of tolerance to cause derailments. You should look to track alignment first. Check the gauge, it should be 5" minus nothing to plus 1/16" on the straight and plus up to 3/32" on curved track dependent on the radius. Obviously the horizontal alignment should be go...

Re: Wheel back to back dimensions
Gordon, Your club should build their railway to the 4 5/8" standard. This way both back to backs will run without difficulty. Ryedale, where the Main Line rallys are held, is one such railway (see the Track Section on their website) and all locos and stock perform perfectly well there. Do guard agai...

Re: Wheel back to back dimensions
Gordon, The GL5 Standard is 4-11/16". Historically there were few ground level 5" gauge railways and on a raised track without turnouts the back to back was irrelevant and there was really no standard. Martin Evans did publish wheel set dimensions in more than one of his books and this provided a ra...

Re: Suppliers of Shed Plates??
Scrat, From your previous posts and from those I have seen on the LNER forum you have finished your very nice locomotive in GER livery (right or wrong) so it would not be correct to fit a 32A smokebox door shed plate, since this would be a post 1948 fitting associated with British Railways ownership...

Re: "Diesel" power
Bob Symes' loco is powered by a Taplin Twin miniature marine engine. Compression ignition 2 stroke, fueled by ether. The smoke is from the lube oil mixed with the fuel - Castrol M from memory. There is obviously some control gear but the engine is very powerful for its size so it might not need a ve...

Yes. The loco you are talking about was by Roy Amsbury. the engine (not the locomotive) was a Deltic and it was described in ME.
