Re: Maxitrack loco

If you want to know what is included you should ask Maxitrack, as such things may change over time.
However, as they were not, as far as I know, used by BR or a constituent company, you wouldn't be allowed to run one at a GL5 event.

Printed this last night, obviously some refining of the process required, but still looks quite cow like.
Isn't this a more appropriate use of 3D printing in our scale than doing whole wagons?
Rather than Buttercup, perhaps we should call her Rhododendron.

Re: 3D Printed Wagons.

How can I put this politely, you get what you pay for, and you wouldn't be paying much. If you check our web site under the menu 'About', it says of locos "providing they are an accurate representation of a prototype, and conform to all GL5 standards". I suggest that the same applies to rolling stoc...

Barry Glover

Liz had a message from Down Under this morning. Our mate, Barry Glover, died peacefully last Tuesday with his family beside him. His son is going to send me nos for a video link, of his funeral, which lasts 90 days. Barry was a leading light in the model engineering fraternity in Australia, and trav...

Re: Maxitrak Locos.

Hi David, I agree with Matt. The Class 25 is a very useful and quite realistic loco. Being a Jack of all trades you can use it for anything, especially useful at GL5 events. You may well find the Brush a disappointment, it's a nice idea, but poorly executed. Speed is far too high, and it's a poor re...

Re: Mica B

Matt, I've not come across an underframe quite like this before, whilst the members are fairly standard for GWR (angle for crossbearers and longitudes), the use of 5 tie rods to take the draft forces is unusual. Each crossbearer has a large cast spreader plate on each side of it to transmit the load...

Re: Mica B

Silver soldering it all would be the "proper" way, but can lead to buckling if the middle is heated much more than the outside, which is what I have done. The solution which I have since used is to silver solder the headstocks, and continue into the ends of the solebars and longitudinals. Then soft ...

Re: Radio-Controlled Locos

Scrat, you say "the only critical path left would be the rc receiver or RC to 4QD adapter commanding full speed due to a hardware failure" and "I will not leave out a failure of the RC set that generates a seemingly valid input for the adapter or 4qd". BUT, you then correctly point out that "A simpl...

Hi David, and welcome to GL5.

LIz, our membership secretary, keeps the back numbers and should be able to help, though I think she's on holiday for the next week or so.
