Re: Interested in a signal building group?

do you need help with any of these parts?
If anyone likes drilling 1/32 cross holes and turning small shafts, let me know, there are about 44 to make!

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

The crank base pattern is with the casters, but this is what the finished thing should look like. Update in THE LIST.

That's all the single balance lever brackets, main spectacle plates and spindle bearings (reamed). The flash isn't as bad as it looks!

I'll add a picture of the balance lever bracket to THE LIST.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Thanks Richard, we have details of the glasses, it's the big steel plate I'm struggling with. It looks like Dorman only do the replacement lamps, or have I missed something?

Hopefully you received some bits in the post from me last week.

Dave.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

HELP. I'm having a bit of trouble with the miniature spectacle plate as I don't seem to have a drawing. I've drawn it out best I can, using the main spectacle plate and LMS drawing as guides. I just can't get the curves quite right to properly clear the top of the arm, but I think we'll manage. Min ...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Received some castings last week. They have been 3D printed then lost wax cast directly in bronze. One set to size for trial, one set slightly oversize as patterns. First ones to try were the lamp bracket saddles. Lamp bracket reduced.jpg All seems fine, so the other ones have gone off to the caster...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Trial etch for the arms arrived today. P1030244, red.jpg Folding is a bit tricky as the flange is so small. I'm happy with them so will send for another etch which should be all we need. Anyone got a little folder they would like to use to do these on? Anyone got any good ideas for painting these ne...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Hi all, to comment on a few comments. "Bearing in mind time constraints the easiest thing is to have the lights come on when the signal is powered" . Can't see a problem with that. Arduino Micro. If you're sure that's what we need, I can get them, just let me know, but, the Farnell site points out s...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Keith, Yes, they are the ones with the strands wound round the main wire in turn, on the operating wires. I know how they are done in full size, but the wire we have is very springy stainless, only 0.5mm diameter, so unlike full size, it doesn't stay where it's put. And, the individual strands are t...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Nice work Jonny, I don't understand them, but nice work. Also thanks for the wiring diagrams, I don't understand them either! On a more positive note, I've sent for some more servos, and will send some on to you Richard when they arrive. Expecting some saddle etc patterns on Tuesday, they can then g...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Thanks for the detailed explanation Richard. A couple of points. You say we only need 3 input lines. I hate to disrupt things, but we were assured that we needed only two signal wires, two for power, and three for manual control, so we now have 50 off, seven pin sockets to suit. Do we now need 9 pin...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

First picture shows the completed spindles, first spindle brackets, and first backblinder arms. The remainder of the arms should be with us mid January. PC230058.JPG Ben has almost finished the bases, the sockets have arrived, and I have the Perspex for the bottom covers, I just need to get it to Ch...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

I would simply compare the length of the original blank with the length overall of the complete U bolt, and adjust as necessary to get to the required 24mm overall. 24 are required for the 15mm post at the moment. Thanks.

I think your first 1.6/2 should be just 1.6

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Nice job Steve. It occurs to me that it may be best if I give you the finished overall size of the U bolts, rather than an estimate of the blank length, the balance lever bracket is 5mm thick, so adding the post (15mm), wire thickness (1.6mm), nut (1.5mm), and a bit of protruding thread (D/2 = 0.8mm...

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Eddie,

I've sent you a reply, for some reason although it says it's been sent, it is sitting the outbox, not the sent box. I don't understand. If you've not received it please let me know.

Dave.

Re: Interested in a signal building group?

Just to keep you up to date, Ben has printed some of the signal castings on his 3D printer to prove the designs and this has enabled me to get a bit more together. PB250046.JPG You can see how the grey "castings" are all attached to the post with U bolts. The arm is laser cut steel and of course nee...

Re: driving truck suspension

Right, the problem is that the supports prevent the body from rolling relative the bogies, ie rotating about the vehicle's longitudinal axis, like a ship rolling from side to side. What you can do is allow one bolster to support the body with the supports/rollers which are already there, but give th...
