Eccentrics....again
Hi all, my LBSC Minx is back on the bench. Again, one of the eccentrics has shifted. They are fitted using grub screws. I would like a permanent way of fixing them. So far I heard of two methods. a) drill through all 5 eccentrics and put a bolt through them b) tin and solder Who of you has tried the...

Track occupancy using balls?
I just read "signalmans morning" and "signalmans twilight". There was a short description of track occupancy display using metal balls that would be either in sight or out of sight in the track diagram to show if the track is occupied or not.
Can anyone give me an idea on how this worked?

Stephenson valve gear: where to start?
Hi, my LBSC Minx needs to have the valve gear set. It ran fine until one strap broke and hit a sleeper. This seems to have moved one of the eccentrics. Which is the best way to re-adjust the valve gear? Some sources like this one start with the eccentrics: http://www.steamingpriest.com/links/project...

Test run completed
Hi Folks, last Saturday we had a meeting in Vollbüttel. Loco ran well except for one injector. http://up.picr.de/17906860lz.jpg The problem was (as usual) not the injector itself but the tender water valve. With air bubbles in the water supply the injector just could not work. Axle pump is also work...

Hi Folks,
My "Toad" needs someone to operate the brakes.
Does anyone have a source for a figure of the right size?
What would the brakeman wear?
Best regards

Re: joint venture
A friend of mine has done some drawings for V irons and other small parts. the idea was to build some "budget" 5 plank wagons. All visible details in place, all invisible details left out, simple springs for buffers and some other light modifications that do not spoil the model. Due to other project...

Twin Clack valve?
Hi again,
I am looking for a twin clack valve (want to unite steam pump and hand pump delivery directly at the boiler). Does anyone know a supplier or have drawings for that?
Best regards

Re: smoke box seal
Hi Andy, I use stuff called FIREGUM. This is normally used for exhaust pipes. Worked well for me so far. After putting it on and putting the parts together, this stuff stays flexible until you heat it. To avoid cracking I hest the boiler slowly the rfirst time. After that it becomes solid as rock. E...

Transfers: Which supplier?
Hi folks,
finally the Claud is receiving its final coats of paint.
I still do not have any transfers. Which supplier would you suggest?
A friend is also looking for some transfers for a 3.5" gauge loco.
Best regards

Hi folks, Finished the portable tracks yesterday, so now I do not need anyone to help if I want to run trains in the garden. I could not use permanent tracks for this purpose as they run directly past the stairs leading to the conservatory. Now I just 1)Push the first track out off the cellar window...

Hi Andy,
we used the same springs on all wheelsets. My Minx also has a ride-on tender ans as it is big enough all axles receive an equal load. (I can sit almost in the middle).

Re: Ride on tender springing??
Hi Andy, I know of two approaches. Seen on models at our club. a) just provide downwards movement. When the driver sits on the tender, the axle boxes touch the frame. Less comfortable ride, easy to build and wheels react reliably to pits in the track as there is plenty of space (and force) to push t...

Signal box, looking for ideas
Hi folks, my German signal box is showing signs of age. It was made of wood just to cover the electric bits of the interlocking. Now I am looking for something different. As most of my stock is British, I need a matching signal box. Did anyone ever build one to scale? I would prefer bricks as wood d...

Hi Eddie, thanks for the warning. I will also use warm white LEDs now. For the connections I am going to use 2-pin connectors like this one: http://www.adaptare.de/images/49530.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (can be cut to any length) The pins will project aout 5 mm from the lamp...
