Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
Moving on to the spring hanger/brake hanger thingies: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5097/5491076301_520ffd4197.jpg These were also a best guess from the GA Drawing as that was all I had to go on, it appeared to be a single piece on the drawing but I doubt I'll ever know for sure as no detail drawin...

Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
I'll start with the buffing and drawbar springs: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5173/5492601238_beec34c162.jpg I have no idea why the springs are located so far from the buffers and drawhook but according to the GA this is the correct location and configuration. The springs and buckles were standard...

Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
Keith, As persuaded here is the picture you refer to: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5215/5491249923_909f30315c_o.jpg I built this underframe based on a General Arrangement drawing of the brake van that I obtained from the NRM that was slightly grainy and in places hard to read the smaller dimension...

Re: FREIGHT TRAIN
An excellent reply from Dave, I can't add much but would like to reinforce the point about scale speed. Unless you need to use the loco elsewhere for passenger hauling I would gear it for an appropriate scale speed as the battery shunters I have driven have all been quite difficult to drive smoothly...

I think that Dave meant the Model Engineering Website rather than the Model Engineer Website, try this link:

Re: 08 SHUNTER DRAWINGS
There are at least 3 suppliers of Class 08/Class 10(Blactstone engined version of same loco) in 5" Gauge. Blackgates, Compass House and Dan Jeavons all do them that I am aware of, the first two can be googled but Dan Jeavons doesn't have an internet presence. He can be found advertising in Model Eng...

Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
The van had it's first run round the track on Saturday, still plenty to do to finish it but I was pleased with the way it ran.
Hopefully most of the exterior jobs will be completed before the May rally.- Tue Apr 06, 2010 9:19 pm

Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
Work is progressing on my brake van, got it painted in primer this afternoon and hope to get the top coats on next week then on to final assembly. It doesn't look much different to the last photo but a lot of little jobs have been completed now. The springs are more or less finished as well so it sh...

Re: On the bench: 16 ton mineral
It looks good weathered anyway, I must admit I was too scared of messing up the paintwork to weather my 7-plank when I finished it! I'll post an updated photo of my Brakevan in the next week or so, still not finished but coming along slowly.

Re: GER 10 Ton Brake Van
Hi Tony Sorry but I haven't got a clue how many hours it has taken so far! Due to a variety of reasons the build has been spread over the last 3 years including 12 months where I did nothing due to an intensive training course after changing careers so I lost track of the time spent in the workshop....

GER 10 Ton Brake Van
It seems to have been very quiet on the Forum lately so I have been prompted by Richard Phillip's post to put my current project on show in the hope it will encourage others to share their progress with us all. Sorry about the Picture quality but it isn't really the weather for getting outside into ...

I think I have been slow to respond as I don't have particularly strong views on this as I have enjoyed all of the rallies I have participated in, both GL5 and Mainline. I agree with some of the issues Doug raised such as using lamps correctly, watering only at columns, coaling only on shed, correct...
