Re: Workbench: LMS 12ton Sand Wagon
Sorry I didn't notice your query. It's oak in this case which is probably a bit course-grained for this scale. When I was buying fence boarding from a timber supplier I asked if they could plane some up to the correct section, which they did. Oak will make fittings stain, shipbuilders would burn the...

Re: Headlamp code
#1 Some pictures show the top lamp iron above the polished ring on the smokebox door, others show it fixed directly to the smokebox right above the door. Which one would be correct for my loco? When electrification using overhead wires was commenced, a lot of locos were modified to move the top lam...

Re: Wagon plate info
I remember catching a conversation that Dave Capol was having about the "G" plates, but I haven't seen him at a GL5 event in a long time. You could try contacting Peter and see if he knows or has artwork as Alan says, see: http://www.petersplates.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: wanted milk tanker info
It's a good book and I'd suggest that the one listed at 30 pounds is probably as cheap as you'll get it unless you land on a lucky find. I'm still looking for volume two which seems to be very rare or otherwise expensive. I'm not sure what the rules on fair use copying are, but I can probably scan t...

Re: Milk Tank photos
Good photos, but I still don't think I've ever seen a colour photo of any of the pre-BR era milk tanks - we may never know what those colourful private-owner liveries really were!

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
I like the buffers, and that point rodding cover(?) looks very much like a scale barrow crossing.

A rather ruthlessly scaled image that throws some light on the IMS livery, and we've not got it too wrong....

British Transport Films
There are some great period rail films made by British Transport Films. This one has some good colour shots of wagons near the beginning, and the plate wagons and fish vans later on, as well as being general interest with a mix of diesel and steam. http://youtu.be/YkgnTonf-Oc" onclick="window.open(t...

Re: Suppliers of Shed Plates??
Peter took over from Bill Hall making locomotive and wagon plates.

Diane Carney makes good but expensive plates and my set (to my surprise) were not supplied cut and painted.

Re: Long Wheel Base Brake Van
Are you working on/re-doing some of the timetables Keith? (nice photo by the way, that's what they should look like!) Hope you get it right or there will be some flustered yard staff! By scotch goods time I'm about ready to throw the towel in with stock being hooked out of made up rakes - go easy on...

It's going to be a stretch to get this ready for Gilling, let alone for the Bristol ME Exhibition we're setting up tomorrow!

Dave, Sorry to hear of your ill health. I am only missing a few copies, and would be interested in obtaining them, but this may break up your collection - if you would be prepared to sell them individually I would be interested. 18,22,29,39 and a few recent ones as I haven't updated my subscription!...

Re: Loco Coal Only
I can only assume they had to get to their destination somehow, so were probably included in pick-up freights as I doubt there were specific merry-go-round workings for them. I don't really understand the condemned wagon branding sometimes seen similar to "one trip loco-coal only", unless a wagon wa...

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
David, Excellent. I fondly remember spending time on an wonderfully warm summer day driving on your railway, I can't imagine that now with this prolonged rain we're having! Now I'm nearly up to 7 wagons if I'm ever have the opportunity to make it over I'd very much like to come over again. It's unfo...

Build your own Tippler
Since the hopper drop at Gilling seemed to be a success and we hope it becomes a more permanent feature, how about a tippler? Re: LMS Milk Tank - 2
The Milk Tank is ready for the weekend at Gilling. During the course of checking over the chassis I notice two missing nuts from the spring hangers! I found three loose nuts on the buffer stocks. I oiled the screw couplings, wheels brake linkages etc for good measure and check my other three wagons...

Re: Mobile Cranes
Just to note that Peter Tatlow's book "Railway Breakdown Cranes Volume 1" is now out (and a reasonable discount at Amazon), which I've had a look at and seems very good. There was also an article fairly recently in the Great Western Journal - probably from material that went into the book.

Re: Workbench: BR Minerals
I don't know if this is any kind of "new" idea, but it's funny how you stumble across these things. Since I decided to go for a Diagram 1/102 with bottom doors, it essentially means no d108 style corner bracing, so I now have to solder in a corner piece. But how to hold it whilst I solder it in? The...
