Points radius

Post by Martin Ashley » Sun Mar 07, 2021 9:25 am

Any suggestions on the minimum radius of point that could be negotiated (slowly) by a 4-4-2T (precursor?) And an 0-6-0T (jinty)?

It would be difficult to give a sensible answer without knowing how much sideplay there is on all the axles.
The GL5 portable track is 35' radius, and so far everything which has turned up has run on it without problem, so far as I know.
It would be interesting to know why you need to know the radius.

Answer to why - the turnout to the shed on my short garden line is stupidly small radius and my Jinty won't go round it! (My 0-4-4 will, but she's not a loco that would be allowed at GL5!) I've just taken delivery of a new 30' radius point from Barry at Mypointworks. I can thoroughly recommend Barry's new business.
