5" gauge scale BR pin stripe dimensions.

Post by Andy G » Tue Jan 04, 2022 2:33 pm

Hi Folks,
Happy New Year to All.
I am currently wanting to line the side water tanks, and cab sides on my ex GWR 1500 class "SPEEDY" locomotive, with the British Railways white and red pin stripes.
I wonder could anybody provide me with the white and red pin stripe (width) sizes, and space between please.
Are water transfers worth looking at rather than a lining pen.
I may be able to get the complete shape done on a vinyl sheet by a relative, as a trial, if I can provide the dimensions required.
Thanks.
Best Wishes.

From what I can gather they had the standard lining of black, cream and grey on tanks and cabsides.

According to Haresnape, 1/4" red, 1" black, 1/8" cream, 5/8" grey, the latter to the outside, and 4ins radius to it's outside.

Boiler bands and cylinders, two red lines, but I don't know the separation. Presumably to match the boiler band width.

Vinyl stick-ons always look like what they are, and may not stand up to your loco cleaning regime. A lining pen is the most difficult, but the best looking and most durable.
