Claud Hamilton / Super Claud

Post by Scrat » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:22 am

Hi folks,

my "eternal project" slowly approaches the finish line. The loco is scheduled to run under its own powers for the first time on the first weekend of August. (fingers crossed)
I am now looking for the correct "royal blue" paint.
Blackgates sent me a colour sheet but their impression of "royal blue" is almost completely black.
I have found some photos of other 5" Clauds on the net but the colour is impossible to determine exactly. Can anyone give me the RAL number of a matching blue?

Best regards

Super Claud dome cover needed

Post by Scrat » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:02 pm

Hi folks,

my Super Claud had another test run last weekend. Now the detailing work is about to start. I still need a dome cover. Are there any castings available on the market?

Best regards

Here´s a shot of my Claud in the workshop.
The blue colour of the running boards is just primer.

Looking very nice. Is it to the Martin Evans design?

Update:

After a visit to Bressingham I finally have the right shade of blue paint.
Injector clacks sorted out
Just some minor detailing work to be done (dummy air pump, handrails, etc)
Axle pump is not reliable. It was not included in the design, but Manfred (aka Master Mechanic) managed to squeeze one in.
Lamp irons and lamps are still missing (still looking for a better drawing than the one I posted)
The tender also requires some finishing. I will post some photos soon.

My workshop also received a small upgrade. My Hobbymat MD-65 lathe received the matching milling attachment BFE-65 last week. I have never used a mill before, so there s something new to learn for me.

Test run completed

Hi Folks,

last Saturday we had a meeting in Vollbüttel. Loco ran well except for one injector.

The problem was (as usual) not the injector itself but the tender water valve. With air bubbles in the water supply the injector just could not work. Axle pump is also working well.
I will run her for this season to sort out teething troubles and then have it painted next winter.

Best regards
