Eccentrics....again

Post by Scrat » Wed Jun 24, 2015 7:42 am

Hi all,

my LBSC Minx is back on the bench. Again, one of the eccentrics has shifted. They are fitted using grub screws.
I would like a permanent way of fixing them. So far I heard of two methods.
a) drill through all 5 eccentrics and put a bolt through them
b) tin and solder
Who of you has tried these methods and can give advice?
Maybe you even have a better method of fixing them. Please let me know.

I will be down in the workshop taking the boiler off.....

I usually just run a drill down through the screw hole in the eccentric to put a decent dimple in the axle for the grub screw to bite into.
My ultimate method if the axle can be totally de-oiled is after making the dimple, use a syringe to pump some Loctite down the screw hole.
