Club marshalling yard design hints
Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
That's good as to oil up my bullied you need a raised open rail section and the turn table is a good length as well.

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
Although the yard has already been used by ESSMEE members, there is obviously still some work to be done.
I have no doubt that Nigel will be keeping an eye on these postings, but just in case I'll give him a call in a day or so.
Regards,
David.

Good to see things are progressing, I'd like to be able to come down and visit some time this year, it would be good to try and fill that yard but I suspect it will take a lot of rolling stock!

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
I was hoping a large South West GL5 contingent would come too! I don't think I'd manage to fill even one of those sidings on my own! Still, fun to be had, remarshalling a train in a specific order in the least number of moves etc.
Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
As i said give some possible dates and we will try and arrange ti try and fill that yard with gl5 wagons .

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
Despite the wet weather over recent months, we have continued to make progress on the marshalling yard. Concreting of the unloading pit, and the turntable pit are complete and the turntable itself is nearly ready for installation, as is the track onto the steaming bay.
A note for anyone in the area on Sunday 6th April - we shall be having a 5" day to coincide with a toy fair which will be taking place at the Bath and West Showground.

Hello Alan.
We obviously understand, and were not expecting to be over-run with visitors! Hope all goes well at Shildon, and that the event bears fruit for GL5
Regards,
David

5" day at the Bath and West - An unpleasant day as far as weather was concerned, but enjoyable nevertheless.

Re: Club marshalling yard design hints
I didn't take many photos, I spent a bit of time wandering round and catching up with the members of ESMEE I haven't seen for about 3 years! Anyway, the yard has plenty of capacity!

Bath and West Railway - second shunting yard.
08.45 am Saturday 8th November 2014
Weatherwise, the forecast was bad, and the day started with heavy storms. Despite this the decision was taken to make a concerted effort to prepare the site in readiness for setting out the shuttering for the trackwork.
Roger Cock, a member of ESSMEE who specialises in groundwork brought in his Hitachi mini excavator, and made short work of a job which otherwise would have taken several weeks of manual labour.
With a short coffee break mid morning when there was a major downpour, the job was completed by 14.00pm including the positioning of some hardcore, and the levelling of the excavated soil. More hardcore should be placed next week.
Hopefully, the pictures show the results.
